Welcome to Kalbar
Kalbar is an historic town just 15 minutes from Boonah.
It is situated in the Fassifern Valley, surrounded by fertile agricultural land, with spectacular views to the surrounding mountains.
Kalbar has a rich German history which is reflected in its architecture, streetscapes and historic sites. Originally known as Engelsburg after early trader August Engels who set up shop in 1876, the name changed to Kalbar in 1916.
Kalbar has a convenience store, chemist, farm supplies, hardware, various shops, a civic centre, hotel, showgrounds, state school, historical churches, a retirement village, farm service businesses and parks and gardens.
A must see is the heritage-listed buildings of the Wiss Emporium and Wiss House as well as cafes and art galleries.
Kalbar is becoming a popular wedding destination, with the stunning restored 134 year old White Chapel Kalbar set in beautiful gardens providing the perfect setting for a country-chic wedding.
There are plenty of community events held in Kalbar throughout the year, including the Kalbar Show held every June. Beginning in 1926 it continues to grow and change to reflect the changing community. Local wine, olives and gourmet cheeses are all on display along with traditional regional produce.
Kalbar Country Day is held in October with street stalls of local produce and crafts, rides for the children and a day of jam packed entertainment for the whole family. For car enthusiasts the Kalbar Swap Meet and Markets in October is a must do event.
The Kalbar Showgrounds are a popular stopover for caravans and motorhomes.
An Anzac Day Dawn Service is held at the War Memorial in Engelsburg Memorial Park.
